Congratulations to our 2017 KAFC Fire Chiefs of the Year!

Cheryl Allen

Chief Cheryl has been a member of the Russellville Rural Fire Department for over 30 year and served as chief for the past 6 years.  Her department has 35 volunteers operating out of two stations. Not only is she kept busy being Chief she is also very involved in the community. This past year she spearheaded a fund drive and coordinated the renovation of a house to be used as a women’s rehab center, and is planning another center for men.

Two of the comments on her nomination for said:

Chief Allen considers all her firefighters family members, and takes a personal interest in their individual and collective success.

She demands that safety and safe practices are a top priority for all operations. She believes that training and skill development is essential for a good firefighter.

Bill Seng

Chief William Seng has been a member of St Matthews Fire Prevention District for over 30 year and has served as chief since 1992. This past year Chief Seng has worked diligently to obtain a Certificate of Need as well as an Ambulance License from Kentucky Board of EMS to Emergency Ambulance service for his District.

The primary ambulance provider had been Louisville Emergency Medical Service. The increased demand in the area had exceeded their capacity to provide efficient service. Seeing a need in the community Chief Seng began the long process of obtaining a Certificate of Need.  In October of 2016 The Cabinet of Health and Family Services issued a CON to the St Matthews FPD to operate an ALS Ambulance.
