Firefighters knocked on nearly 1,100 doors in Lexington to install free smoke alarms.

According to Major Jordan Saas, there needs to be a working smoke alarm in every bedroom, hallway, and level of a home.

He recommends that you replace your smoke alarms every ten years and change your batteries twice a year.
